WHAT ABOUT A CRITICAL SPIRIT

A “critical spirit,” is an obsessive attitude of criticism and fault-finding, which seeks to tear others down — not the same thing as what is sometimes called “constructive criticism.” The only criticism that is ever constructive is that which is expressed in love to “build up,” not to tear down — it is always expressed face-to-face, never behind their back. 

The person with a critical spirit usually dwells on the negative, seeks for flaws rather than good. They’re a complainer, usually always upset, and generally have a problem or a complaint about something. They often have little control over their tongue, their temper, and have tendencies for gossip and slander, which Paul said were sins “worthy of death” (Rom. 1:29-32).

The Bible says that the reason that we are to come together as a church is, not to criticize, but to “exhort” (encourage) one another (Hebrews 10:25). “Cursing the darkness” won’t change anything, but we must light a candle and “expose the light” of God’s Word. By sharing the truth of God’s Word, and encouraging people to live in its truth, people will change. Love and encouragement is a “motivational force.”

If we ever hope to bring improvement in others, we need to become people of encouragement. This is the only attitude that will change people, and our actions and words must be devoted to encouraging the spiritual progress of our brethren.

RE-FIRE YOUR LIFE WITH PRAYER!

It is clear from scriptures that the first Church, in the days of the apostles, stood on two pillars; prayer and the word. In Acts 6: 4 they said, “But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.” When you take away these two, the Church is bound to grow cold, dry and empty. The warmth of the Church is sustained mainly by prayer and the Word. Remember Jesus said, “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places seeking rest and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first... ” (Matthew 12:43-45). If we must keep the evil beast away therefore, we must fight dryness and emptiness, we must keep the fire burning with prayer and the word.

The apostles said, “But we will give ourselves continually to prayer….” Why? In Matthew 26:41 Jesus had earlier told them, “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation…” Temptations abound but it takes watching and praying to overcome. Satan's intention is to make you fall into temptation, it is your prayer exercise that guarantees your standing in the face of such temptations. You cannot be praying and falling at the same time. If you find yourself falling all the time, it means you are not praying. Those who pray don't fall.

Also, in Luke 22:32 Jesus looked at Peter and said, “I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not…” Faith failure is the root of all failure. But when we pray, faith is sustained and strengthened; failure gives way to victory. Jesus also meant to say, “The reason I have not failed is because I am praying.”

GODS SOLUTION TO OVERCOME SPIRITUAL DRYNESS

A new beginning also means turning a season of emptiness and dependence into that of productivity and relevance. Life begins with what you are able to offer to your world, so you have no right to talk of your beginning if you have nothing to show for your existence. Your actual beginning is when you have something to show forth to your world.

All  us must do is to reach for the Bible, open to Proverbs 4:20-24 and follow the instructions you find there:"My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee."

Every time you take the Word into your heart, believe it and act on it, that life of which Jesus spoke, the very LIFE of God Himself, is released in you.. Every time you read the bible  or hear preaching, they bring you a fresh dose of God's life power. Each time, they bring life to you and deliver God's medicine to your flesh.
That's because the Word is like a seed. Hebrews 4:12 says it is "alive and full of power--making it active, operative, energizing and effective, It actually carries within it the power to fulfill itself.

Granted, it isn't easy to keep your attention centered on the Word like that. It takes real effort and commitment. It may require getting up a little earlier in the morning or turning off the television at night. But I urge you to do whatever it takes to take God's medicine to cure dryness in our life.

DANGER OF SPIRITUAL DRYNESS IN CHRISTAIN LIFE 2

When you see a man fighting his wife, it may not be because the wife is bad but because the man is spiritually dry. A man tells lies not because he is hungry but because of spiritual dryness. You are living in hatred and bitterness not because somebody offended you but because you are spiritually dry. Murmuring, bitterness and all kinds of evil thoughts are all result of spiritual dryness.

Samson's problem was not Delilah but spiritual dryness. Gahazi was a man with great potentials, he could have perhaps received four times the anointed upon Elijah but he lost it to covetousness. His problem was not money nor clothes per se, he was so spiritually dry that he couldn't say, “no.” The trouble of Judas Iscariot was not 30 pieces of silver. He was the treasurer of Jesus' ministry, he kept the bag which meant he had access to an account that was inexhaustible. So his problem was not money but spiritual dryness.

You know why Jesus was not moved when Peter said to Him, “You are crazy”? He was spiritually alive, He saw beyond Peter and dealt with the source. He said, “…Get thee behind me, Satan…” (Matt 16:23). The Bible says, “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace” (Rom. 8:6). That is what you need to stay spiritually alert and keep satan away. Stop playing religion! Settle down and build up yourself; let spiritual things interest you more than other things, let the study of God's Word be your daily delight. Fight bitterness, hatred and anger! You will get to your ultimate goal in life.

DANGER OF SPIRITUAL DRYNESS IN CHRISTIAN LIFE 1

Spiritual dryness is satan's open door into the believers life. Jesus said in Matthew 12:43-45, “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places…” Satan does not go to hot places he goes only to dry places. The Bible says, “…He walketh through dry places seeking rest and findeth none.” May he never find vacancy in your life. “Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty…” So, spiritual dryness comprises of emptiness and idleness but it doesn't stop there. “… when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.” The word ‘garnished' means to put in order; to be poised, looking religious, but empty.

That is the way many believers are, they clean the outside but pay no attention to the inside. Jesus said, they are like whitewashed tombs which look beautiful on the outside while the inside is full of dead men's bones and all manner of uncleanness (Matt. 23:27). They don't offend anybody but they are dry. When satan finds such a believer, “Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first... ”

Spiritual dryness is satan's environment. Until he finds a dry place he cannot survive. This is why we must fight and avoid spiritual dryness.

POWER FOR SERVICE ACTS 1:8

Jesus Christ spok at length about the Holy Spirit. He told His disciples nnot to witness until they were baptized in the Holy Spirit and endued with power from above (Lk 24:49). Jesus Christ Himself was anoited with the Holy Spirit and with power before entering into ministry (Acts 10:38). Jesus Christ also told His disciples that they will receive power after the Holy Spirit had come upon them. Only then would they be able to His witness in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and all over the world (Acts 1:8). You can also receive the Holy Spirit because the promise is for everybody. Acts 2:39. Are you ready? Ask in a sincere prayer and He God will give it to you.
